We’ve been tracking updates on the heavily rumored Telegram Premium for a while now and have even been able to bring you an update on the expected features. Well, now we have official confirmation from Telegram CEO, Pavel Durov himself who posted a statement on the new premium subscription tier on his official Telegram channel. Telegram Premium is officially on its way so let’s have a deeper look into what Durov has said.

The good news is that nothing is going to happen to regular Telegram users. As well as announcing Telegram Premium, Pavrov also took time to celebrate Telegram as it has always been and to reassure users that they will still have access to all the features they are used to, even if they do not pay for Telegram Premium.

As we have previously reported, it is widely expected that Telegram Premium will, for a lot of features at least, offer double the capabilities over what’s available to regular subscribers as well as a host of other premium features like advanced chat organization features, animated profile pictures and more.

In his statement, Pavrov discusses at length the experiments the company has been doing with privacy-focused ads, and even claims that the experiments have been successful. Ultimately, however, the decision has been made to turn to a premium subscription model for some power users to secure the revenue stream Telegram needs to provide tiered levels of services to all of its users.

Something Pavrov didn’t mention, however, is the price Premium users will have to pay for the service, although if you have already read our report on Telegram Premium’s expected features you will know that it is highly likely it will cost $4.99 a month.  There is still no word though, open when we can expect the premium tier to launch.

So, there you have it. We have official confirmation that Telegram Premium is on the way. It is interesting to see Telegram offering even more powerful features to users as WhatsApp begins beefing up its specs too. If you are a big Telegram user, we will always keep you up to date on the latest Telegram news.
